Everything You Need to Know About Microblading

Jun 30, 2025

Thinking about microblading but not sure where to start? We’ve gathered the most frequently asked questions to help you understand the process, what to expect, and how to prepare.

What Is Microblading?

Microblading is a form of permanent makeup that uses a hand-held tool with fine needles to deposit pigment into the skin. The result mimics natural hair strokes, enhancing brow shape and fullness. While it’s considered permanent, the results typically last 1–3 years and require periodic touch-ups to maintain the look.

Is Microblading Painful?

It’s minimally uncomfortable. Most clients rate the sensation around a 2 out of 10—similar to brow threading. We apply numbing agents before and during the procedure to ensure your comfort.

How Long Does Microblading Last?

Microblading results usually last 1–3 years, depending on your skin type, lifestyle, and skincare routine. Other options like powder brows can last 2–4 years.

Is Microblading Right for Everyone?

Not necessarily. Microblading may not be ideal for:

  • Oily or mature skin (powder or nano brows are better)
  • Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Clients with autoimmune conditions (doctor’s note required)
  • Anyone with a history of keloid scarring

How Should I Prepare?

To prepare for your appointment:

  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning 1 week before
  • No Botox for 1 month prior
  • No alcohol, caffeine, ibuprofen, or fish oil for 48 hours
  • Avoid retinol and exfoliants for 1 week
  • No workouts 24 hours prior
  • Avoid scheduling if you have a sunburn or breakout in the brow area

You must fill out a consent form honestly prior to your appointment. Incomplete or inaccurate forms put you at risk for poor healing or unwanted results.

What Is the Healing Process Like?

  • No sweating, sun, or swimming for 2 weeks
  • No sleeping on your side or face
  • Brows may flake or itch—do not pick or scratch
  • Only use the aftercare products we provide (cleanser + ointment)
  • No makeup or skincare near the brows for 2 weeks

Aftercare is critical—60% of your results depend on it.

Can I Still Groom My Brows?

Yes! Once healed, you can continue waxing, tweezing, tinting, or lamination. Just wait about 4 weeks before doing so.

Are There Any Risks?

Microblading is minimally invasive, but like any tattooing procedure, it carries small risks such as infection or allergic reactions. We require full disclosure of any health conditions and allergies to minimize risk.

How Long Does the Appointment Take?

The first session takes 2 to 3.5 hours, depending on mapping, shaping, and pigment selection.

Microblading vs. Microshading: What’s the Difference?

What Are Powder Brows and Nano Brows?

Nano Brows: Uses a machine to create precise strokes, ideal for oily or mature skin. Can be standalone or combined with shading. (Artist: Jackie)

Pricing

  • Perla (Master Artist): $650
  • Perfecting Session (6–12 weeks later): $150 (not included in first session price)

Common Concerns & Special Cases

Can I wear makeup after?
No makeup near brows for 2 weeks.

→ Can I get microblading with sparse or no brows?
Yes! It’s a great option for clients with little to no brow hair.

→ Can I get it if I have a scar in my brow?
Possibly—we recommend a consultation.

→ Can I get it if I have an existing brow tattoo?
Only after a consultation to assess the area.

→ Can I get it if I’m pregnant, breastfeeding, or on Accutane?
No. You must wait until after pregnancy and be off Accutane for at least 12 months.

→ Is it safe for men or gray/blonde brows?
Yes! We often recommend nano or powder brows for men or clients with very light or coarse hair.

→ Can I shape my brows after healing?
Yes—brow maintenance like waxing or tweezing is fine after healing.

→ What if I’m not satisfied?
Let us know immediately. Brows often shrink and fade after the first session, which is why the perfecting session is essential.
