Important Microneedling Information

Contraindications

Contraindications are conditions that serve as a reason not to take a certain medical treatment due to the harm that it would cause the patient. Contraindications for microneedling are as follows: 
  • Active cancer of undergoing cancer therapy within 6 months
  • isotretinoin/accutane within 6 months
  • Immunosuppressive diseases that cause impairment of healing including AIDS and HIV
  • Thyroid clients will need written consent from their doctor
  • Hemorrhagic disorder or hemostatic (bleeding) dysfunction
  • History of keloids 
  • Allergy to stainless steel 
  • Pregnant or nursing
  • Active cold sores (HSV-1)
  • Anyone prone to cold sores must be taking antiviral 
  • Inflammatory conditions (psoriasis, eczema, perioral dermatitis, bacterial/fungal infections)
  • Compromised skin (sunburn, wounds, irritation)
  • Skin cancer

Pre-Care Instructions

  • No NSAIDS 5 days prior
  • No blood thinners 5 days prior
  • No tanning beds 3 days prior
  • No retinol 5 days prior
  • No aggressive exfoliation for 3-5 days
  • No shaving or depilatory creams for 1 week

Post-Care Instructions

THE NIGHT OF:
  • Rinse treatment area with cold/lukewarm water only (no cleanser)
THE FOLLOWING DAY
  • Gentle cleanser AM & PM 
  • Can resume moisturizer
AFTER 24 HOURS
  • Resume application of topical vitamin C, serums etc
AFTER 5-7 DAYS
  • Resume exfoliants & retinoids


Safety Precautions

  • Do not pick, scratch, or rub the treated area
  • Avoid skincare products containing irritants (fragrance, dyes, solutions etc)
  • Cleanse makeup brushes and pillowcases etc 
  • Disinfect phone, eyeglasses and sunglasses with alcohol

Restrictions

The following Restrictions Require your compliance to cease immediately after service on treatment areas:
  • Makeup - 24hr
  • Showering - 24hr
  • Excess sun exposure & tanning beds - 1 wk
  • Vigorous activities that increase body temp and sweating - 3 days
  • Exposure to excessive heat (hot tubs, steam rooms, saunas) - 3 days
  • Swimming - 1 wk
  • Shaving/depilatory creams - 1 wk
  • Exfoliation - 5-7 days - no scrubs or exfoliating brushes for 1 wk

Treatment Combination Guidelines

  • Neurotoxins - cease 24hr prior & resume 1 week post
  • Dermal Fillers - cease 2 weeks prior & 1 wk post
  • Laser hair removal and Waxing - cease 1 week prior & 1 week post
  • Resurfacing/Wound Healing Treatments (chem peels, microneedling, lasers etc) - cease 4 weeks prior & 2 weeks post
